Hello... my name is Reggsta and this is my account of how I became a Christian

As a kiddy my mother went to church while my dad stayed at home. I was up for staying at home but my dad didn't let us watch TV on a Sunday morning so I went to church. It was a classic church - dark quiet and now and again some 50 verse hymns so as soon as I found some friends to go and play subuteo with on a Sunday morning, I was off. Many a year passed by and I did all the usual child/teenager things mainly involving sex, drugs and rock and roll. You don't realise how these things are destructive in the long term whilst feeling great at the time. I really missed the bigger picture.

Anyway my life carried like this until I was 15 when I was listening to a conversation between two friends of mine. The problem was that I didn't understand a word they were saying. They were talking about this spirit and shaking and stuff like that. So I started joking saying "yep that happens to me as well every Wednesday morning. ". Anyway the next Saturday night one these two guys rang me (we were more acquaintances than mates) and asked me if I wanted to go and play basketball on Sunady afternoon. He also mumbled something about church that evening as well. This was a shock 'cos firstly I didn't really know him, secondly I was rubbish at Basketball and thirdly he'd managed to track me down at my sisters house. Sunday came and I went to his village and tried to play basketball and just meet loads of people and they were all really friendly and happy, which shocked me a bit as where I live everyone walks around with their head down. Anyway I went to his church and it seemed like the one I went to as a kid but there were more young people. Everything was just about OK until the geezer with the white thing around his neck said something about a play, and I realised I had been left sitting on my own. Everyone else had got up to do this play thing. A really rude word entered my mind, but I won't say which one. Wierder still was what happened at the end. People all started having prayer and started falling down all over the place. More rude words entered my mind. Anyway (and I still have no idea why) I said I've have someone pray for me. They started praying all nice and everything, but all of a sudden started praying weird words which sounded like foreign gibberish. At that point I started praying "God if you are there, please saving from these ****** looneys!". Well I wasn't even a Christian then but I can say God answered my prayer because they stopped praying and went away.

My friend was asking me how I felt and whether anything had happened. I was just nodding thinking to myself "The moment I'm out of here… I'm never coming back!". I got home in one piece totally gobstruck. The following week I avoided my "friend" as much as possible, but on the Friday he invited me to a roadshow by a group called Soul Survivor. My first reaction was "FIT BIRDS!" so like a burk I said yes. Admittedly when I got there, there were a lot of fit birds and my eyes lit up. Eventually things got going and this fat Greek bloke started talking about food poisoning which I didn't find funny but everyone else did, especially when he related it to being a Christian. The music eventually started and everyone started jumping around like crazy fools, shaking and all sorts. Then the tunes mellowed out a bit and people stopped dancing but started screaming and shaking. It suddenly dawned on me that people wouldn't do this for anything and they certainly didn't do it when other bands play at gigs. The fat Greek bloke started explaining that these things were because of God's Holy Spirit doing miraculous things. 4 years on from that night I've people say it's all hypnotism, but I tell you "DON'T KNOCK IT TILL YOU'VE TRIED IT".

If you are still in doubt, the question still remains "Does God exist?" A few things answered this question for me that night.

  1. Nobody could prove he didn't
  2. I'm in my teens but I know Mozart, Shakespeare and Hitler existed because I can read about them. The Bible is one of the most accurate books of history in the world so I'm sure Jesus did the things he was said to have done.
  3. These people were utterly committed to a God that promotes selflessness and love. Manmade things always have some element of selfishness in them.

After a small step of faith that night I now know that God exists and I can read about it in the Bible so in turn I've learnt that he gave me life, he forgives me for my sins and he'll help me when I need it. These are the reasons why I love Jesus.

Anyway that night at the Soul Survivor gig I responded to the appeal to acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Saviour. This is not as complicated as it sounds. Basically, what it means is "Jesus is the business and he'll get you through it all!"

I'm not perfect now and I'm still learning but hopefully by reading this testimony you'll start to think long term, rather than "how can I fulfil my immediate wants and desires".

P.S. I think of myself as a logical Spock like character who can rationalise and quantify everything, but I've learned that some things you just can't do in your mind. Something have to come from the heart as well. I'm quite happy to answer questions that you might have, especially if you are searching or can maybe relate to what I've been saying.
